Fingerprints I found and forced the cops to run resulted in an arrest and conviction about 8 months later. Guy only got 18 months, time off for good behavior. Usually the cops are not excited about the process of actually trying to find these guys. In fact, I'm sure they know who they are. Just too lazy to try to get the evidence needed for a conviction. I am going to present them with the ashtray liner (chromed steel) that was removed in an attempt to get to my CD/Radio audio unit (worth $117 new 13 years ago) which has a prominent print on it. Maybe that will help.
Had my car broken into about 3 years ago. They got away with a cell phone, combat lifesaver bag (first aid kit) & checkbook I'd forgotten and left in the glove box.
Talking to the detectives later, I found out there was a rash of car break-ins all up and down the street I live on that morning; more than a dozen.
I went to the bank first thing, and knew the number of the last check I'd written, so they stopped payment on anything that came later - left the account open with a minimal amount in it until I could shift all my direct drafts to the new account I opened that morning. Went to the cell phone office across from the bank as soon as it opened and had the phone stopped.
Anyway, in the next week or so, I started getting letters from places these guys had written checks using my checkbook, and had to send certified copies of the police report and the letter from the bank.
The bank gave me copies of all the checks to take to the police. One was to a pizza delivery place, and the driver had marked my address out and written in the address he delivered to ... a block down the street from my house.
I thought the police might be able to do something with that, but their only response was "Oh yeah. That's the crack house."
The one that really made me mad was the one where they'd written a check at Food Lion (a grocery chain) and the cashier had marked through my driver's license number on the front and written the driver's license number of whoever signed the check AND that person didn't even bother trying to sign MY name; she signed her own name on my check.
And three years later, when I went to buy groceries at a Food Lion, they told me I couldn't pay with a check because I'd written a bad check to them before.
I offered the store manager a suggestion where he could dispose of the grocery order on the conveyor, and even offered to assist him in doing so.
I'll never shop at Food Lion again. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
