My only point of direct comparison between Takumar and SMC Takumar has been with the smc-Pentax 17mm f/4 Fish Eye (K-mount) that Cotty bought (and I relayed) and the Fish-Eye-Takumar 17mm f/4 (M42 mount) that I purchased when I discovered how much I liked the FL and fishiness on the L1. The two lenses have identical optical formulae, the primary difference other than mount is the SMC coatings. Cotty's lens definitely shows significantly less flare than mine does.
