That's the nature of war, Lasse. That's what War is.

was Truman's or of his staff, or both. Churchill approved of the idea, so did
General MacArthur and the planes were sent off as soon as weather conditions

Those are exceedingly simplistic statements. You were not here, then. You did
not live the horrors of that war. You did not live with the daily fear of
receiving a telegram that said your dad or your brother or your son or your
husband would be returned to you in a box, as so many indeed were. So very,
very many. It was a time of turmoil, of fear and anguish, of great
sacrifices. And losses. There is much you do not know, for it's not within
your memory. But it is in mine - a little child's memory. A little child who
grew old enough to understand before it was finally, finally over.
