Fw: Put a Sock in It ...

My son and I took a trip last July to Belize and Guatemala. I was

concerned about the probable jungle rain storms and tried to go as

prepared as I could. Tenba offers a couple sizes of "rain covers" made

of lightweight nylon cloth with a clear window for looking through the

viewfinder. The front of the cover wraps around the lenshood and

attaches with Velcro. You operate the controls thru the cover; it's

lightweight enough that you still get very good tactile response. It

worked great. While in the park at Tikal, we got caught out in a

full-blown tropical downpour. I was carrying a Nikon 8008s with a

Tamron 28-300 zoom attached and both stayed completely dry. As

a precaution, when I returned to our room, I removed the lens from

the body and put both pieces of gear into a large (24"x18") ziplock

back with a 2"x4"x1/2" dessicant brick (both carried along for just

this purpose) and let them sit overnight. I never had any problem

with moisture; the little blue/pink indicator never changed color.

These could also be used as suncovers if you're shooting outdoors in

a hot sunny climate to help keep the lens and camera body cooler.

I know my black gear gets quite hot to the touch here in TX.
