The second part of my comments on the July PUG:

Ranunculus
----------

I like it as a flower shot because it is simple.
Still I would have preferred something "closer" to the theme ;-)

Busy Bumblebee
--------------

By far the best close-up shot in this PUG for me . Very well executed,
lovely composition, rich colors.
Easily my favorite among this type of shots here.

Dragonfly
---------

After all this wonderful dragonfly shots in the last days it's hard for this
photo....
I like the posing but would like to see a bit more space around the animal.
I miss a bit sharpness and DOF too. The green leave and background is nice.

Close Encounter of Feline Kind
------------------------------

As a cat lover, I do of course like this PUG entry. The unusual composition
is interesting,
of course cutting the ears distracts somewhat. The expression on the face
and the position
of the leg compensates for that shortcomings. the "Close" is somewhat in the
title only,
but I enjoy this shot.

Podiceps Auritus in spring time
-------------------------------

I'm a bit at loss with that one.
I do not see the relationship to "close" and the picture does not move me in
its current state.
Is that a very rare bird or what's the secret behind this shot?

Closed Door
-----------

A classic interpretation of "Close". I would not imagine that this shot was
taken in Hawaii!
I think that the composition could be a bit stronger by moving the door more
off center and
maybe even going closer. The floor and the stones lack a bit of detail which
could be fixed
on the computer. Is it slightly overexposed or is that my monitor setting?

Close the Doors
---------------

A refreshing interpretation of the theme, I like that.
I'm somewhat not so happy with the view and would like to see one or more of
the doors closer
or a nice detail of one. Still, I like the idea behind that entry.

Sundown in Torrevieja
---------------------

This one looks more like a painting than a photo to me. I have some sweet
memories regarding harbors
maybe that's one of the reasons I like this photo. A loose but inspiring
interpretation of the theme
for me.

4 July 2004
-----------

A wonderful firework photo, I wish I could do such a nice one. The rockets
exploded very "close" to each other,
is that the relationship to the PUG theme? Or is this already the "open
forum" and the section title is missing on
the page?

Peace
-----

Very nice colors and indeed it looks like a peaceful place. I would like to
know a little bit of the story behind that shots
and why it is "Close" (to night?) I would love to have an A20mm ;-)

Yellow Flower
-------------

Of course I'm somewhat influenced by my favorite interpretations of the PUG
theme so this one does not really catch my
attention. I expect from a macro lens more sharpness, would like the flower
a bit more off center and a uniform background
here.

Conclusion
----------

To be honest, I expected a bit wider interpretations of the "Close" theme
and hoped for more shots especially taken with this theme in mind. I have no
problems with the technical shortcomings of some of the (snap)shots when
they move me content wise.
It looks like this was a complicated theme and indeed I did not have a good
idea for an entry myself so I better stop complaining now ;-)

Thanks to anybody for the entertainment and the PUG team for the work.
