Not to be nitpicking (?) but I just wanted to remind the listers that
they should not compare film prints via a Frontier or Noritsu or Agfa
DLab machine with prints on same machine from digital. Scanning film
rarely does it justice, especially on these machines which lack
tonality, sharpness and accentuate grain.
I am not comparing DSLR vs FILM, both have their merits and both offer
high quality in different aspects of image.
Just that degrading film to a Noritsu or Frontier print is not fair ;-)
Noritsu machines scan film at 2000ppi, and give an approximate pixel count of 2000x3000 pixels with an 8 bit per pixel colour depth.
This colour depth matches the output of the printer (in fact no digital output to print exceeds 8 bits per pixel at the moment.
They do not accentuate grain. If grain is there, it will be scanned.
Grain suppression is customizable and can be set to a very high amount of supression, at the expense of sharpness.
The problem is that film scanning of any sort is a bastard marriage of technology.
Unfortunately, the consumer has spoken, they won't pay for high quality optical prints any more, they prefer cheap and low quality pictures.
The industry is just giving the consumer what they are asking for.
