unless a 400mm lens is simply inadequate. my most useful birding combination
is an A* 400/2.8 with the AF 1.7 extender on an *istD. it is adequate for
many things but it's doing these kinds of shots where i have some notion of
having the A* 1200/8. birds across water aren't easily approachable.
