"Grayish dull picture...."

Dave, you did do Auto Levels in PS, right? I find that necessary for nearly every image. Some do better with Auto Contrast, but often AL and AC give the same results. A few images are fine or even better without either.

I can't tell what metering you used. I have few exposure problems with my *ist D, just problems with a dynamic range like slide film. I generally use center-weighted because I don't trust program metering. In Washington DC last week, though, shooting the bright WWII memorial in bright sun with blue skies, I goofed and had it on program metering. All exposures looked great.

As I recall, you had a Nikon digital. Is your *ist D new?
