Either i still have not fiqured out proper metering, tone settings and WB on this thing yet,or i'm a
complete yutz.

Please correct me here if i'm wrong. I decided to shoot a lot(actually all beacuse i
forgot to change back to matrix metering in better sun conditions)of the wagons and horse in CW mode(and
Prog Auto) as i thought this would bring out the detail in the darkewr wagons/horses against the
bright blue sky. I checked my histo's and my blinking highlights and thought a -0.3 comp would be fine.

Having reviewd the 200 or so shots, only the ones in 100%direct sun and little or no sky,
are any good at least to me. If it was not in 100% sun, maybe a touch of shadow on some areas,it looks
like it under exposes by 1-2 stops.Grayish dull picture, dark blue sky etc.Almost as if contrast setting
is very strong.
(i'm using auto as recommended by other shooters).
I thought, and may be i should have been in matrix metering, that centre weight whould be
benificial on a bright day with contrasty subjects.
It seems through my trial and errors, that Auto Program and Av are hit and miss.Manual and
Tv modes seem the most stable on this camera.

Any one having these type of set up concerns on the *istD.?? I dont remember having
problems like this on the D1, in any mode and my settings are mostly the same, except Auto WB seems to
work well with the jumping.

Any tips on onboard camera meter for digital.Seems i need a course in it asap. Am i paying
to much attention to the histo andf blinking highlights.??Is matrix the best in bright sun even if
subjects are darkish and made of wood.

I remember an a few occasions with the D1 i needed to shoot into or across the sun and
would get good results. The early shots this morning are all but useless shooting cross sun.

Arggggggg.
Sorry to rant on group, its just i am extremly ticked off that i cannot get consistant
results for metering this baby.

Any help is app.

Off list if you so desire.
