Doug, California Route 1 hugs the Pacific coast. I know a US Route 1 in New England, on the Atlantic coast. I don't know about US Route numbering, probably historical.
I know North-South interstates are odd numbered and East-West interstates are even numbered. This keeps the truckers with a poor sense of direction oriented... <g> Regards, Bob S. > > Right.
