I think the PPA offers the best insurance coverage available. On
top of that, you can also divide the film into two batches and
send each by a different registered carrier.  That should mean
that the most you can lose is half the negatives.  I know
wedding shooters that take more extreme measures than that.  I
just hand carry the film to a local processor. If the film gets
lost, I'm lost with it. ;-)

Every now and then I read about accidents in a lab that ruins
thousands of images but that happens a lot less than film lost
in shipment.
