Hi, Keith,

I've had OS X at home since last summer, though I don't have it here at work yet. If you go into system preferences (may be on the dock, otherwise, it's under applications) I know the dock preferences allow you to turn off the jumping icon animation.

Some program icons, like AOL's instant messenger, are as difficult to remove in
the Mac environment as they were in Windows! If dragging it off the dock doesn't do it, try control-clicking on the icon in the dock and see if you can deselect the "show in dock" option. If that doesn't work, launch the damn thing and see if you can deselect that option when the program is active. If that doesn't work, try this -- sometimes, I think, if you launch the program and then quit it, you'll be able to successfully drag it off the dock.

You have a Mac and OSX, no?

I find the dock quite annoying, in that when some program {the dock Icon
thereto] needs attention, it bounces away from the dock. and back again,
like it was on a spring!
And until/unless you mouse click on the d*** thing, it keeps bouncing!

I have other questions as a new OSX user, but this is presently the most annoying!

How do I remove dock icons for programs I'll never use, that take up space?
Things like Instant Messenger (SM). I'll never use that P.O.S
application, but if I drag it out of the dock, it just releases itself
from the cursor and bounces on back. . . Grrrrrr!

Thank you Sir! It may save my sanity!

[It's shameful to have your sanity hinge on such trivial things, no? :)
