It could it be for a remote battery pack. Probably have 6V DC on it (with the batteries in the winder) if so. Be interesting to know if Pentax maybe made winders for a special purpose camera of some sort.

A 1/8" mini-jack on the top outside of the grip was the factory remote madification. could you post a link to a photo?
