i find 1 stop bracketing as the older cameras do is totally inadequate for something like Velvia. half stop is better and 1/3 stop even better. bracketing using the aperture ring or shutter dial doesn't do this. using exposure compensation does, but why bother when auto bracketing respects the mode you are in. if you are in Av, only the shutter speed varies. if Tv, then aperture. if P, then the camera does what it wants.
