I dont get it, are you still saying there would be
some visible perceived or actual difference? There wouldnt
be either.

        ah - here's the crux of misunderstanding  :^)

        The assumption was that a 400mm for 645 would function
        *the same* - ie: the sensor would crop into the lens'
        image circle and the *resulting image" would seem (to
        an eye not overly concerned w/ the physics of DOF, etc)
        as if the lens were longer than it actually is, mostly
        just a reduced field of view effect. But that's what the
        people seem to really like - you know, a Free Lunch!   ;^)
