There have been long and erudite explanations of the FOV crop when using the available 6 mp DSLR cameras.
Don't you believe it. With every DSLR, you get, absolutely free, a lens 1.5x as long as your current longest lens. Period. It's that simple. So my 300mm/f4 is now a 450mm/f4. Don't believe me? Then just try to get a 300mm pic from an *istD with any 300mm lens. It's impossible. You can only take a 450mm photo, not a 300mm photo. With my Nikon D100 kit, when I attach my 1.4x teleconverter to the 300/4, I get a nice small 630mm/f5.6 lens. That's so neat - a 630/5.6 small enough to carry around all day long. I can't wait for the *istD. My FA* 600/4 with 1.4x and 2.0 teleconverters becomes, lets see, will my calculator go that high... ummm, yes, that would be 900mm/f4 and 1260mm/f5.6 and 1800mm/f8. With fine image quality, because, remember, I am only cropping from the best part of the lens' image circle. Free long lenses. Joy. -- John Mustarde www.photolin.com
