I don't think they will fall into financial trouble - new digi cameras (Optio S, Optio 33L and Optio 550) sell very well. But I afraid they will lost a lot of its image as a photo world company - they could become cheapo-digito-camero company as it is with HP.
I think that has already happened to Pentax. Many people have considered Pentax as a cheap brand even before the digital era.
