My first sighting of the word was in James Joyce's "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" which was required reading during my school years.
Irish born friends of mine use it exactly as a British descended person would use the e-less form of the word. If Billy Connelly is typical of his countrymen then it's widely used in Scotland as well. regards, Anthony Farr ----- Original Message ----- From: "whickersworld" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Cotty wrote: > > > > > Is "shite" pronounced with a > > > long or short "i"? > > > > Long 'I', as in flying a 'kite'.
