Go back and read "Beating the 50 lines per mm Resolution Limit" (http://medfmt.8k.com/mf/limits.html).
In practice it is hard to get 50 lp/mm regardless of how the lens is focused.

No wonder Brucey doesn't bother with focus. It's all bokeh to him anyway.
