The real answer to your question is no, you have to stop the lens down manually for metering and for exposure. The 20mm is lovingly called the Bow-Wow Takumar by some on the list. I don't know if it is truly a bad lens, or is just not as good as it should be. Bill Casselberry has one, perhaps he will make some useful comments on its good and bad qualities. William Robb
