This is exactly where I am. I have a few not much to brag about lenses, a K1000, P3n
and ZX-5n. I'm interested in a more feature rich body and have long questioned
whether I would have been happier with the PZ-1p. I've been waiting two years to see
the new Pentax offering and I'm probably willing to spend the money on a new MZ-S or,
dare I say, F100. Even if I get an MZ-S the lenses are going to end up on ebay. I
want quality glass. The P3n is a gonner too. I never really liked it except for the
rubberized body. This leaves me with the K1000 that hooked me on photography in the
first place. I'll probably keep it just for the sentimental value and the soothing
sound of the shutter.

So, realistically, what should I do with my near $1000 for a body? F100 or MZ-S.
Which has the best future? It's a pretty tough call.

Everytime I get excited about a third party lens that comes out, it isn't available in
KA mount.

I could go on and on but I have to wonder if you don't have a stockpile of lenses to
hold you back and you weigh Pentax against the competition, where do you go? Now that
the MZ-S is here, I have to decide.

Hello,

In my opinion, the point is.... If a new consumer goes to B&H, for example,
to look for a camera (he wants to upgrade from P&S to SLR) and the retailer
shows a MZ-S, a F100, N80S and EOS1V, probably the consumer will buy everything
else but the MZ-S. This will happen for a few reasons....

1. Price. - A consumer every time wants to buy more for the same price. If
would like to spend US$1000 +- 200 and I am starting using SLR will will
buy a Nikon.... I bought my first pentax because it was much cheaper...
I bought the PZ1-P because it was much cheaper than the F100. I like them
very much but if it was the same price.... Last week a friend of mine bought
a N80S and I took some pictures.... Unless the 1/4000 max speed and data
imprimnting it has the same specifications than MZ-S plus some "hyper" modes
for half of the price (US$450)

2. Marketing - Nikon and Canon have better marketing departments than Pentax.
And I think Pentax will not change it with the MZ-S. I will not
be surprised if Nikon and Canon gives top camera to famous PJ's for free
only for marketing... This works very well.

3. Support - Nikon and Canon have more support than Pentax from PJ and
serious amateurs (this happens because of marketing).

4. Delay - Pentax is going to release a full 35 mm frame digital camera
with 6 Mpixel.... Nikon have a 6 Mpixel digital camera and in the
time pentax releases its probably nikon will release a full 35 mm 10 or
12 Mpixel digital body.... for almost the same price....
