I've been following this thread sort of half-heartedly,
however, I visited the sites as I was curious to see the flare
problem and the lens hood that comes with this lens.
The hood seems like a plastic toy hood, and is not worthy of
being used on a Pentax lens. I noticed that the lens takes a
49mm filter thread, and that got me to thinking that the
rectangular metal hood from the 35mm Takumar lenses might be a
better alternative than the highly reflective plastic hood that
comes with the lens.
Why does this lens need a tulip hood? I'm surmising that the
front element doesn't rotate, otherwise a tulip hood wouldn't
work. Perhaps those of you who have this lens could try the
rectangular, metal, Takumar hood, and see if it reduces flare to
any degree. Perhaps other hoods, like the Heliopan or B+W will
afford better protection from flare.
Just thinking out loud ...
