Well now...even Windows Media Player isn't co-operating! I got video with
no sound! I don't know what in the world is going on here! I have a
portable DVD player (one of those Sylvanias that came out a year or two ago.
But it doesn't seem to want to charge up!

More on my not being able to fully play my DVD saga: I can play my DVDs
(there are actually two of them in this set) for maybe ten minutes! At this
point, Windows will freeze up on me...and I'll get a "program not
responding" message! This last time, at this point I decided to just take
the DVD out of the drive, knowing that if I didn't, I was going to have
problems, such as my computer just getting stuck and causing problems that I
don't even know if I can accurately explain! So far, I've not heard of any
other people who have purchased these DVDs having problems (I did hear that
a couple of people had to turn their volume up on their computer or DVD
player) but I find that I didn't have to do this! I really wouldn't mind if
VLC would play it as I think I could move forward and backward quicker! But
so far, VLC just won't play it (VLC will come up and act like it is going to
play it! But as some folks say "no joy!" And I don't get this jazz about
"possibly not having the right permissions (or whatever it's saying! Ideas
anyone?

Have a quick update: I did get the video to play by going into Auto-play;
then chosing Windows Media!  Problem is that I couldn't advance or go back;
now (after trying several other options, Windows Media won't play it! This
is most frustrating! I know that there is someone on this list who believes
that VLC will play anything; not so, for it won't play the DVD I have in the
machine now!

Subject: Need Help With Playing A DVD

Hello list: I have a DVD of a show that I was involved in (just got it
yesterday) I know the DVD is good, for I can play it in my stand-alone
Sylvania DVD Player! However my computer absolutely refuses to play this
DVD! When I place the DVD into the DVD/CD drive, VLC comes up.but does
nothing! When I go to computer; then go to the D drive, I am presented with
a dialog, informing me that Windows cannot access the specified file, path
or device; it goes on to tell me that I may not have the appropriate
permissions (or some such nonsense) to play this file! It's my DVD (I
bought it) I.along with the band.play in it! Why is it that my computer
won't play it? What is it I need to do? Help much appreciated!
