The volume issue and the less than super punchy bass are why a little headphone amp is a nice thing, unless you have a good stereo pre-amp in your home system. Theese phones are still nice on portable devices, but way nicer with the addition of that headphone amp. And their size and long cable do make for a less than super convenient portable experience. But the spacious sound stage really has to be heard to be believed, especially with a good amp.
