right I understand. Lets say I have just finished listening to music on my iPhone. I put the speaker in pairing mode once again, so it unpairs from the phone. Should it not then pair with the laptop?

That doesn't really seem strange to me at all. You can't pair one and
the same device simultaneously with two audio output sources such as
the phone and the pc. I don't have lots of bluetooth devices, but those
I do have all act that way. They can be paired with more than one
device, but not at the same time. Only one device can be on and paired
at any given time.
