The apple products and the new hp computers do this.
You need a cable the breaks up in to an ear phone stereo jack and a mic
jack.
You'l find this at amazon in the apple accessories section.
Belcon and Cmedia make them.
The cable has 4 connectoion.
tip two rings and a sleeve.
The jacks are a stereo earphone and a microphone jack.
About $3 or 4 dolars.
Also radio shack sels an adapter that does the same thing.
Good luck.

If your laptops are like nine the headphones and microphone share the same
jack. You can test with a pair of earpods.

With most laptops having one jack, you may plug either a microphone or a
headset into it and the computer will ask you which one you are using.
It then adjusts to your choice. If you want to use both a microphone
and a headset at the same time, then you are best off using a USB mic.

Hi
I have a new laptop, there only appears to be a single 3.5
mm jack on the side, I assume this is for head phones, there
isn't a second jack for an external mike. I have been
looking on amazon for a usb mike, can't find a reasonable
priced one under £10, anyone got any ideas please, most of
them come with webcams but there is one built in.
