It will play just about everything, but it's mostly for video formats. I
wouldn't recommend it for your audio files as it's just not really designed
with the flexibility to make playlists and such that, Winamp, and probably
foobar as well, has in abundance.
As for whether it works with screenreaders....well, yes. Documentation is a
little sparse, though. There is a list of keyboard commands somewhere and
the programme is entirely usable via keyboard. Don't expect a great deal of
voice feedback, though. However, if you want to play videos, VLC is pretty
much the best solution out there...no need to hunt around for codecs..it's
played everything I've thrown at it from weirdly encoded MKVs to DVDs.
