In case anyone is interested, I solved the problem in the devices tab. -----Original Message----- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Adrian Spratt Sent: Monday, October 08, 2012 2:38 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: GoldWave, recording results only in hiss
After installing the current version of GoldWave and registering last night, I'm suddenly unable to record. Instead of the sound I intend to record or the silence discussed in the manual troubleshooting section, I get the kind of hiss you hear on AM radio when not tuned into a station. My setup is the same as before. I've kept the same connector between my cassette recorder and the PC's microphone jack. I'm actually trying to record a cassette I did earlier, only to discover I'd set the volume on the cassette player too loud, causing some distortion. At least the problem then was just to reduce the source volume level. I can't find any way around the hiss. The only other time I experienced this hissing sound when recording with GoldWave, I suspected I had too many applications running at once on my PC. A reboot did, in fact, fix it. However, I rebooted twice last night without having any impact. The problem persists today, including with a different cassette that I'd copied successfully to my PC via GoldWave on the weekend. does anyone have a suggestion?
