that is true, it might remove that silence, but wouldn't the code just call for looking at the beginning and ending of the file? As for cds, yeah that's just assumed you want the gaps, itunes has this annoying habit of trying to determine gapless playback information, which takes forever and I haven't had a chance to figure out how to disable that check.
