And I putit to you that you're missing what I'm saying <smile>.
Yep, you can use speakers for whatever you want but you get what you pay
for so a $150.00 of surround-sound speakers may not be the best for music.
I also stated - as have others - that if you're happy with what you ahve
then fine! enjoy what you have but for the price you paid for your
speakers - if you want music - then there are better alternatives.

these speakers are just not only for what you say they can be used for any
device, tvs computers portable players, recivers for stereos, and the like
the power is more then you might think about them. i garentee you this one!
Dane, not sure how long you havebeen into audio but i can surely tell you
that you are underjudging something you haven't had your hands on.

Common sense and well put.
Yes, there are surround-sound systems that sound good with music but you're
not going to get one for $150.00, may be around about 8 times as much then
things will start looking good.
As I tried to explain in one of my messages on this topic, manufacturers -
most manufacturers - of surround-sound systems love to play with figures and
the larger the number - say the larger of watts they can put on a label on
the box - then the more of the units they'll sell so therefore they'll use
any measurement they can get away with.
On the other hand, if you spend a bit more money on a proper surround-sound
system say like a Yamaha receiver with some reasonable speakers then you'll
end up with some good honest information about exactly how powerful your
system is, mine is 100 watts RMS per channel feeding a 5.1 system, if that
was measured using peak power then the number of watts would go into the
thousands when it came to measuring the total.
The speakers Sunshine mentioned sound absolutely brilliant for games.
You mentioned music? Well most music was recorded in stereo anyway thus a
good stereo system should do the trick and good stereo systems are dead
cheap these days, I spoke of the new Altec Lansing Expressions Plus speakers
and for the price they're pretty good but even then, you can buy yourself a
very reasonable desktop, micro or mini hi-fi system for not much more which
will deliver far more power and even better clarity.

Regarding this debate about speakers I think it is very important to
decide
what you really want to do with your speakers.
If the main thing is listening to movies, then a proper surround system
will
do the job.
However, I have never heard a surround sound system that really sound good
when listening to music. I have no idea why this is so but they simply
usually sound bad.
If your main goal is listening to music, rather spend the money you would
have spent on all unnecessary extra speakers on a good quality 2.1 music
system.

Subject: Computer Speakers
Hi!
This message was sent to another list originally so I've alter the text a
little to reflect the sending of the same message to another list<smile>.
I Bought a new pair of computer speakers today as one of the pairs I was
using is finally failing though I'm not complaining about that so much,
I've
had them for nearly 4 years and they only cost me $20.00.
To put it bluntly the new pair I now have are excellent value given that
they're priced for under $100.00. The system consists of 3 speakers, 2
satellites and a bass woofer, all the circuitry for the system is in the
woofer unit.
I've not sen a woofer design such as this, its a cone shape and is
designed
to sit on a desk or a shelf rather than the floor. This is the first
speaker system where I've seen a bass adjustment on the woofer, extremely
handy I must say if you're wanting to do a little "midnight blasting" and
you don't want to wake the neighbours or you have the woofer sitting next
to
you on your desktop.
I like the sound of this system, bass is at a level which arouses the
interest of a pair of ears but its not over baring as some cheaper speaker
systems are, certainly the Logitech system I had was dreadful in this
regard.
Mid range and top frequencies are very pronounced and perhaps the mid
range
too much so.
In short, don't buy the $20.00 pair of speakers, save your money and buy
this pair and you'll be well pleased.
If you want to further fine tune your listening experience through a 2.1
channel speaker system then take your ears up to the top Altec Lansing
model
in the 2.1 range which is the "Expressions Ultra", moremore about this
particular speaker package in the coming weeks.
You can read a detailed review of the Altec Lansing Expressions Plus
Speakers on my blog at<http://www.grtdane.wordpress.com> which will be
available shortly, the Expressions Plus is the model I'm talking about in
this email..
