DJ Doctor, Thanks. I know how my printer and scanner work, but thank you for reminding me. And I have an outboard sound system for my Dell tower PC that I've gotta plug into the wall. So I get it. The discussion must be just about what folks can stick into their front-facing ports. I don't have any problems or questions in that area.

But however, your printer and scanner have their own power supplies. Your printer, runs on its own power supply of 12 volts. While your scanner, runs on its own power supply of 9 volts. They're not getting that power from the USB ports you have them plugged in to. An amplifier inside of a pare of USB speakers, will. Sometimes, those speakers will be equipped with their own sound cards that uses the USB inter face in order to marry them to your computer. My best regards.
