And, to be thorough, the Plextalk Pocket already plays RFB&D books as
well as NLS books.

the Plextalk Pocket is indeed listed as an NLS reader.

Is it NLS capable yet? Thought they were waiting for that capability. This
would take it out of the running if one was going to use it for nls books.

I noticed the Plextalk Pocket has been left out in the discussion at hand.

I'm very glad to hear it and to be honest, that wouldn't be all that hard
I don't reckon <smile>.
I would like to see some sort of voice database feature in these devices,
some way whereby you could link notes or recordings together, say link a
telephone number with an address or a name, I should think that such a
feature would be handy for elderly people who could use these type of
machines - not just for playing books - but as a type of information
manager for basic information, The Victor Reader for example uses LINUX
as its operating system so there's no question about the power the player
has, its just a question of how to design such a system I outlined.

booksense transfers are much faster to mac and vise versa.

Hi!
Okay, I don't have a Book Sense but I do have a Victor reader Stream.
One thing I like about the Stream is that all prompts and messages are
recorded in human voice rather than having to rely on a software voice
synthesiser so you won't miss any alerts, prompts or errors which
Victor is trying to communicate to you.
I'm also told that there are some major software upgrades for Victor
coming in the near future, one of which will allow you to store your
recordings in a different format such as wave for transfer straight to
a PC or Mac and that's about time too! and this has been my major gripe
about the player from day one - particularly given that I use a Mac
most of the time and there's no way of converting files from the
Victor's format to something standard with the Mac, this should fix the
problem.
The other slight annoyance I have with the Victor Reader Stream is its
incredibly slow rate of transfer using USB cable and I'd be interested
to hear an explanation from Humanware as to why this is, I can only
hope that transfer speeds are faster on the Book Sense. If you're
prepared to be a little adaptive then the problem can of course be
solved by purchasing a memory card reader but make sure you read the
manual first so you know what goes into what folder on the card, how to
arrange things etc.
