Well, from reading http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/voiceover.html, it
sounds like this works the same as the iPod Nano , so there isn't a TTS
running on the Shuffle. The TTS is run on your PC and then iTunes copies
audio clips over to the Shuffle. Since it's the same technology used on
the Nano, you wonder how they can claim "VoiceOver is the exciting new
feature that makes iPod shuffle the first music player that talks to
you." Don't forget, Rockbox has also been using this same technique for
years.
Although Apple's work on making their products accessible should be
praised and encouraged, I'm not smitten with them yet. One wonders why
it took Apple so long to add speech to their iPod's, why the whole line
doesn't have this feature and why they didn't include accessibility in
the iPhone from the get go.

for those who wish to use other headphones as they should, best get
some facts in before the nasty pasty's try to spread a few false

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, I got the picture that most of the
controls are on the ear buds that come with this device. If so,
that's a show stopper right there and right now, especially for
some of us who can't wear ear buds or prefer the old fashioned
type head sets.
