Kathy, Total Recorder installs a virtual device driver. it's this driver
that simulates the what you hear effect on most sound cards. So what you do
is make sure that Total Recorder is using the proper virtual driver (2000/XP
can either use the user-mode driver or the kernel-mode driver whilst Vista
and probably newer can only fully support the Kernel-mode driver). Next,
make sure that it's set as both your default playback/recording devices.
Total Recorder can do this for you. Next, make sure that in the recording
source and parameters dialogue box, software mode is selected. This
instructs Total Recorder to record through the virtual driver, rather than
directly to your sound card's line in or microphone ports, depending on the
system setting. You should now be able to capture stuff coming out of your
sound card, including JAWS or whatever screen reader you use I hasten to
use. If you'd rather use VAC, let me know and I'll try and help you out. For
now though, happy recording with Total Recorder, grins!

Subject: The saga continues . . . Re: What you hear option not available
onasus netbook

Okay, gang. So I've installed Total recorder on my Asus computer, and from
what I can tell, there appears to be no What you hear option, and I'm
guessing it's because of the sound card the Asus uses. I've also installed
a demo version of VAC which is utterly and totally beyond my understanding!
Lol! So, can anyone in Geekland please help me see if I can set up VAC to
be able to record, either through Total recorder or Studio Recorder, both
mike and sound card output at the same time? Seems so simple, but I guess
it just isn't. Many thanks in advance.

Peace,
Kathy
