You my want to check out www.auzentech.com.
They have an auzentech x-fi 7.1 prelude card that is designed around the
creative chip, but with some editions. I haven't tried this card personally,
but I plan to very soon. I have heard great things about it though.

Subject: Sound Card Recommendations
I've been using the Audio file card by M-Audio in one of my computers. No
real issues with it but I was wondering about recommendations from you
guys
who are experts with this stuff.
I am about to set up aa new PC for sound recording\editing and was
wondering
about what the latest and greatest is in this high end sound card area.
And
which ones have accessible interfaces in their software?
I use Jaws 10 and Sound forge 6 at the moment but may upgrade that soon. I
don't have a real need for the multiple input that the M-Audio cards
provide
in their other models, but it might be useful to know about for the
future.
