I'm afraid others may be more able to help you with this problem. All I can
suggest is that you uninstall winamp and reinstall it.

Hi Stephen. You are probably using the Nullsoft Direct Sound output
plug-in. You find the setting in the "fading" tab of the plug-in
configuration window. You may need to use the screen reader cursor to
find it. Tab till you hear a list that starts with "On start". Then
down arrow to "on seek". Then tab again to get to the Fade on seek
settings and uncheck it.
Alternatively; you could switch to the Nullsoft wave out plug-in which
doesn't have the fade on seek setting.

Subject: hearing fast forward in winamp
I know that this should rightly go to winamp for the blind group, but
since I'm not a member, I wonder if someone on this list could direct
me to the answer.
I haven't updated winamp for some time, but I've had to reinstall with
the latest full version - 5144. However, I like to hear my audio files
fast forwarding when I press and hold the right cursor button. Winamp
now seems to have a mechanism that uses what I believe is called soft
start and stop between presses of the right cursor button so that now
there is no background noise when fast forwarding. I tend to rely on
this facility to monitor the fast forward to for example the next music
segment in a recorded radio broadcast, thus skipping past the DJ's
comments, weather forecasts, etc.
So my question is: how can I reinstate the skipping noise when I fast
forward?
Any pointers would be helpful.
