I agree with what Bruce and others have said about the recording quality of the Stream. Remember that, unlike the Edirol and similar recorders it sin'isn't stereo and the quality is much less. It is very adequate for speech recording though as long as you aren't way back in an audience and reasonably close in.
Considering the high level of reduction used the quality is very good with the background hiss being a little more than on a high quality machine. I've not used an external mic but get the feeling that a mic with a high output would be needed.
