Well I wasn't recommending VLC as a replacement, I was suggesting people give it a try and they may be surprised at its capabilities for such a small piece of software.

I've forgotten. Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dane Trethowan To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2007 12:46 PM Subject: RE: Winamp, my thoughts and VLC Yes, I actually agree with you, I've found Winamp to be a consistent performer until version 5.5 for some reason. Of course (Windows being what it is) there may be some sort of conflict somewhere on my system which Winamp involves itself in. I just think quite frankly that Winamp is becoming one of those pieces of software providing features to try and suit everyone, in other words its becoming big and bloated, a bit like Sound Forge has become in many ways but again that's just my view. Yeah, VLC looks as though it was born and bred to run on a network doesn't it, perhaps you should try adjusting some of the many tweeks and preferences Chris if you're having trouble playing some streams, I haven't gone into this area thoroughly as yet, I haven't had the need to but (if my experience is anything to go by wiusing the Mac version of VLC) you'll be able to fix any problems which arise without too much trouble. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Chris Skarstad Sent: Wednesday, 21 November 2007 4:35 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: RE: Winamp, my thoughts and VLC I also have VLC Media player and it's a very interesting little program. It plays some file types better than others on my system and if you have your computers on a network it works great. Now, this Winamp issue...I've been using Windows in all its versions for 10 years, 95, 98 SE, XP and I'm sure at some point, i'll even give into Vista. But in all that time, I can say with absolute certainty that Winamp has never caused my computer to crash, in other words just running Winamp never made my computer crash. I would suspect that in Dane's case, there are other issues with the computer he is using to run Windows. It just saddens me that we have people trashing each other's choices of an operating system, we all need to remember that everyone's needs are different and while some prefer windows, others prefer Apple Macks. Let's quit all the mean little jabs here. You don't see me sitting there calling the apple mack a trashbox, so I would expect that people would respect my choice even though they may disagree with it. Come on now.
