That would be a good thing to check when setting up any recording system, yes. I've never run into the problem with any of my setups,, but I can see how it could very easily be a factor.
In this case, my understanding of Gail's original question is that she is transferring cassettes only. In that case, she probably should just patch the cassette deck directly into her PC.No reason to add unnecessary elements.
