You could try doing a system restore back to before you started having this problem. ****************************** Some people are only alive because it is illegal to kill robert Doc Wright http://www.wrightplaceinc.net msn [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Saturday I closed Windows Media Player 10 on my desktop PC compatible running Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2 on a broadband DSL connection. Later that day I attempted to play another stream which launches WMP again and I received an error saying it could not play the selected media type. I tried launching another stream with the same result. I looked in the error information center and then went to check file `types and settings. I did discover that the "use proxy server" box was checked. I certainly hadn't recalled checking it but I unchecked it. Still nothing. I decided to try playing a stream through ACB Radio's Media Player setup; and it actually played, but the stream stopped and started. As I write this I'm wondering if that's because I unchecked the proxy box. I usually play it through Winamp but have played through Media Player and decided this would be a test. Later I closed out the WMP stream and reconnected with Winamp with no dropouts. Yesterday I decided to try re-installing WMP10. I un-installed it, allowed the rollback to Series 9 to take place, and re-installed 10. Wouldn't play. In desperation I decided to go back to 9 temporarily so I could at least listen to a stream I wanted to hear at the time. I let the rollback happen, tried to launch a stream, and once again nothing. I had been having trouble with a particular stream wherein it either lost a lot of packets or, once that seemed under control, it suddenly developed a sound like an off-frequency AM radio station. I don't see how either of these issues would have had anything to do with WMP itself, but thought I would mention it just in case someone sees a connection I don't. I also noticed an application in Control Panel called Windows Media Connect or something like that, but when I thought I'd try un-installing it to see if there were any difference the warning said that other programs might be affected. The programs it mentioned didn't make sense to me, JAWS video intercept for example, but I didn't want to take a chance of further messing things up and so didn't install it. This must have come through as a Windows Update because it's one I don't remember seeing before. Also, add/remove programs listed it is frequently used, then showed a last used date of May 20. Go figure if you can, and if you can, please explain this one to me. <puzzled smile> We like several streams which use WMP, so this is really frustrating. I wonder if anyone has any ideas what I might try next. As Always, any help would be appreciated.
