Isn't it strange though that A.O.L. will only let you convert to their 
competitor's audio format--go figure!

hi.  The short answer is, if you have the free version of Winamp, you 
can only convert to WMA and Wav, as far as I know.  MP3 and AAC plus 
are available with the pro version.
At least, this was true last I checked.
