He can also use an iriver h140 if he wants to pay that kind of money. 
Michael, have you had any experience with the ptr2? How would you
compare the recording quality with the iriver both with the internal
mike and the external or line in?

Jim, You could use a PTR2, which is completely accessible, because it's
built for blind people. But the Plextalk costs around $800. If you don't
need a line-in, some Olympus recorders like the DS-2 or the WS-320M are
quite good as well. The Sony ICD-MX20 is another fine recorder with a
very good built-in stereo microphone. The ones from Olympus and the Sony
have a menu which can be controlled via an accessible software on the
PC.
