Hi Charles, Have you installed the software that came with your headset? When I bought mine I discovered the drivers on the CD were out of date and I had to go to Plantronics web site to download the upgrade. Assuming you have done this, the only way I know to get the volume control on the headset cable to work is to, go into Control Panel's Sound and Audio Devices and select the Audio Tab. The Sound Playback Default Device should be highlighted. If it is your sound card, use the arrow keys to change it to Plantronics Headset. Tab to OK and press Enter. All sounds should now come through your headset and the volume control will work.
