Hi Avi movies need converting to mpg files to make them like a proper DVD.
They must then be burned in a particular way to DVD to make them DVD player
compatible. Nero will combine both processes or do them separately if you
have the right components. There are many other programs on the market,
accessible and non-accessible which will do the same.
I quite like the Tmpgenc (now named Tsunami) range of products which are
reasonably accessible for performing the conversion and transfer of the
files to dvd in the correct format. Others may have other preferences.

Subject: creating a dvd
Is there a way, either through Nero or other software, to create a dvd
similar to a comercial dvd with a .avi movie? Does one need to convert the
.avi file to another format in order for it to be recorded on a dvd which
can be played by a stand alone dvd player?
