Plantronics supply a range of USB Headsets incorporating a microphone. I'm currently using their DSP 300 model and am very pleased with it. I previously tried about four headsets of the type that plug into the soundcard, made by different manufacturers and found faults with all of them. Using a SoundBlaster Live card, I wasn't able to produce sufficient volume from the microphones when recording no matter what I tried. Another thing to bear in mind with these types of microphone is: if the sound on the computer is built in to the motherboard, avoiding the need for a soundcard, noise from fans etc may be picked up by the microphone. This does not seem to happen with USB types.

I would suggest you purchase a USB headset. I must have spent sixty or seventy pounds on the other type. Money I could have used towards obtaining a top of the range USB headset.

Good luck.

Robert.
