hi yes i do believe that you ahve o have a dvd player or burner to use he 
dvd cd's to burn data on to.

Do you have to have a DVD burner to use them? I have a CD burner but not a
DVD player or Burner on my computer.
I was thinking since the capacity of the DVD disk is larger that it could 
be
useful to back up some large folders on to them and remove them from the
computer thus making more space.

         Yes, about four and a half gigabytes, or four thousand five
hundred megabytes, as oppposed to 800 megabytes of data on a cd!
