The otis player only plays audible format for audible files. It doesn't convert the files first. Sorry to be pedantic, but it sort of matters if you then hope to copy the files onto another machine.
The otis will play MP3 files though. There are other devices that will play audible files, most notably book currier, (latest release), ipod and some others. Personally if I can get the files to convert, then I will.
