i'm using jfw and here are some instructions which will hopefully fix your problem.
go into control pannel and click on sounds and audio devices.
then tab down to device volume advanced button and press space on that.
once the screen pops up with all the various controls for sound inputs/outputs, press tab and arrow down once to properties and press space on that.
tab once and arrow down once to adjust volume for recording. then tab twice and press space on ok.
once your in the next screen of input/output controls, tab through until you get to microphone balance and microphone bolume and make sure that the check box is checked.
then alt f4 to get out of this window, tab through to ok and press space on that and alt f4 out of the control pannel, and all should work fine.
