Hi. I want to display the application version (from the 'tver' resource) in an "about" form. Is there a direct API to specifically get this (without having to deal with locking and unlocking memory handles and releasing the resource afterward)? If not, I could use DmGetResource, lock the memory handle, copy the string, unlock the handle and release the resource.
But now, what if DmGetResource returns NULL? Then I have to use DmGetLastErr to find out what went wrong. But what does the error code mean? I COULD use ErrAlert(), but I want my application to be usable on pre-3.2 OS versions. So, instead, I make my own error "custom alert" form, and use SysErrString to get the error message. But to use this, I have to define my own buffer to receive the error message string. So, now I need to know what size to make the string buffer. Which leads to my question: What is the maximum length of a system error message string? I cannot find anything in the Palm OS reference manual, nor does a quick perusal of the relavent looking header files give me any help. Is there a system-defined constant macro or a recommended size to make the string buffer to use with SysErrString ? Alternatively, is there an easier way to get the 'tver' resource version string?
