Jim,

Assuming Interns register w/ LF, (paid or volunteer), would not the same LF
tools be used to quantify the interns contributions? Then, at the end of their
term, they receive a letter of appreciation for their support?

Subject: Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [opnfv-tsc] Summary of Weekly Technical
Community Discussion Monday October 07, 2019

Bin,
Thank you for the update on the discussion at the Monday meeting. LF definitely
encourages the volunteers to participate in the open source process. We have
tools like Bitergia and Dev Analytics to get a read-out on contributor
contributions. These tools can be used to create a report of any contributor.
The LF intern program includes assigned mentors and evaluations of the interns
that provide the basis of a recommendation. Without that sort of oversight, LF
is not in a position to provide a letter of recommendation - just as we don't
provide recommendations for any open source project contributors.

Having said that, LF wants to encourage these contributors AND the community in
recognizing the efforts of the contributor. If you or others need help
navigating the Dev Analytics/Bitergia to understand any contributors
contributions we can definitely help in educating on the tool use. Perhaps a
letter from the project lead OR the TSC chair with contribution stats would be
appropriate?

Let me know your thoughts.
Jim

Hello community,

proposed a great idea of recruiting and recognizing **student volunteers** (or
unpaid interns). This idea is pretty much the same as existing intern program –
same process and same evaluation criteria such as project goals / deliverables
/ evaluations results etc. to ensure the quality. The only differences are:

  *   Student Volunteers are unpaid
  * Number of Student Volunteers are not capped because there is no impact on
budget (unpaid)
  * Wording of Letter of Recognition is slightly different in order to
indicate the volunteer/unpaid nature.

At the end the meeting, all agreed and recommended that this topic should be
brought to and discussed at TSC meeting. If TSC agrees, we can ask LFN to
expand existing internship program to cover Student Volunteers.

For details of discussion today, please refer to the meeting minutes page [1],
which includes attendees list and IRC log [2].

We are also looking for discussion topics / agenda items for next week’s
technical discussion on October 14th. If you have any topic, please let me know.

Thank you

Bin
